Introducing WMC Fest Sponsors: Jakprints!
Our friends over at Jakprints have been major supporters of all things Go Media and WMC Fest since the beginning and this year is no different. We are super psyched to welcome them back as sponsors and want to tell the whole world about it!
Let’s waste no more time and reintroduce you to the Jakprints world by way of Art Director Ted Barnes.
Hi Ted! Please tell our readers who you are and how they might know you!
My name is Ted Barnes, I’m the Art Director at Jakprints. Before that, I was a Designer at Alternative Press Magazine. So… if you’re familiar with either of those brands, they’ve probably seen something that I’ve been somewhat involved in.
So what made you want to sponsor WMC Fest?
We’ve been involved with WMC from the first year. What’s not to like? We love supporting designers, artists, musicians, Cleveland and Go Media. You put all five of those in a sandwich and ask for sponsors? Hell yeah we’re in!
Plus, WMC highlights design in the best possible way — bringing people from all over the globe into Cleveland while highlighting stellar work in a really honest way.
How will you be involved with WMC Fest this year?
We’ll be coming on board as a Platinum Sponsor again this year. Plus, we’re the Main Stage Sponsor this year, which is where the speakers, musicians, comedians will be going on.
We teamed up with WMC to create high-end custom printed tees, hoodies, tote bags, beanies and merch along with some of their full color promo pieces, like, those awesome posters.
Oh, and, there’s some cool ideas floating around for our booth this year. Swing by and grab one of our new catalogs!
What’s going on with you currently that you are excited about?
I’m a nerd for technical stuff. From what I’ve seen behind-the-scenes in the printing industry, the convergence of new digital machinery is bringing about so many new possibilities over traditional printing. Breaking out from the (typical) limitations CMYK on white paper will open up a lot of awesome opportunities. White ink! Printing on wood! Printing foils! These are awesome things. I’m so excited to see what designers are going to do with this stuff within 3-5 years. I still love traditional work, like offset and letterpress and screen printing, too. It just so exciting to see our tool boxes getting all these new shiny tools in them.
For me personally, once I’m done with day job and freelance, the last thing I want to do is more design work. You need to have some outside interests, you know? I love to cook and bake. In another life, I’ll most likely go to culinary school and become a pastry chef.
What are you looking forward to at this year’s WMC Fest?
These Knees always put on an amazing show. I can’t wait to hear everything Grace Bonney has to say. And, I’ve got to swing by and check out Jakprints’ own in-house Designer Justin Carolyne as part of the designers this year.
