Thank you Busy Beaver Button Company!
Hello, Christen! Tell our readers who you are and how they might know you.
What made you want to sponsor WMC Fest?
You guys are smart, focused and super creative and are really creating something great there in Cleveland. It takes a lot of effort and it’s so cool that you’re doing this.
Tell us a little about how you got started in your career…
I was in a garage punk band in the mid 90’s and met Mark Pawson while in London; he was making buttons over there. I noticed that people weren’t really wearing buttons like they were when I was an early teenager here in the US, so Mark showed me the ropes. I also had become pals with Guided by Voices (Ohio Rockers!) and they said they’d be my first customer if I started a button company, so that’s how it started. Then, I sent out postcards to all the record labels in my record collection and the little button company started to grow.
What’s going on with Busy Beaver that you are excited about?
Always excited about the great customers we have! I’m really digging Burger Records right now, they’re so damn fun and energetic. We now offer rectangle magnets as part of our product line. We’re publishing a few zines this year, one about the history of buttons and two others that are button-comic combos. The Button Museum has about 40 librarians archiving our collection. My coworker, Denise is goo-goo for our customer and very cute cate, Lil Bub, who hails from the land where I started Busy Beaver: Bloomington, IN.
What are you looking forward to at this year’s WMC Fest?
Being part of the energy you have there, it’s gonna be fun.
